Advocate (Housing)

To provide case management, advocacy, and crisis intervention to survivors of domestic violence and their children. This position will be working closely with other staff members to ensure proper housing placement for domestic violence survivors. Is responsible for landlord recruitment and retention to increase the housing inventory, networking with landlords, creating relationships and providing mediation services specifically for the Rapid Rehousing Program.

Illustrative Duties:

  • Monitor each participant’s progression through their own housing search plan and develop corrective action revisions to the plan when necessary.
  • Track housing placement on a spreadsheet for all housed individuals.
  • Assist participants with housing applications, complete supportive and subsidized housing paperwork.
  • Prepare case-related reports including outcomes, success and challenges. Follow up with participants to help support their housing options and ways to overcome barriers to housing.
  • Assist participants with obtaining rental assistance money, processing referrals to various housing programs and requesting housing vouchers.
  • Assist participants as needed during their move into permanent housing in collaboration with the advocates and volunteers.
  • Provide support, education, and case management to survivors of domestic violence following the empowerment model of advocacy.
  • Carry an assigned case load and maintain contact.
  • Participate in case reviews on a regular basis
  • Initiate and complete intake documents and procedures.
  • Complete all required paper work and computer work in a timely fashion.
  • Work with participants to assist them in assessing their needs, developing and implementing a Safety Plan and supporting their progress.
  • Coordinate transportation for survivors and their children to necessary appointments in CASA vehicles or planning routes to utilize the bus system.
  • Coordinate services with community agencies through referrals and monitor service delivery to meet the goals of each participant.
  • Provide participants with information regarding Victim Compensation and Relocation.
  • Accompany participants to appointments with other agencies, if necessary.
  • Present participant status at case conferences, as needed.
  • Perform monthly record keeping and statistical tasks as assigned.
  • Stay current with personal training hours.
  • Facilitate housing or financial workshops as needed.
  • Participate in facilitating orientation for new residents.
  • Complete PPR forms as needed.
  • Complete the HUD annual performance report.

General:

  • Understand and abide by CASA’s Confidentiality Policy at all times and respect boundaries.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to treat residents, volunteers, and co-workers in a respectful manner at all times.
  • Attend staff meetings and case conferences.
  • Attend and participate in training.
  • Assist with training and supervision of volunteers and interns.
  • Agree to work a flexible schedule when required.
  • Complete special projects and presentations as requested.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate and maintain a professional image by wearing business casual attire as defined in CASA’s employee handbook.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in related human services or have equivalent life experiences.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence or other crisis experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current community resources and have the ability to maintain working relationships with agencies.
  • Agree to drive agency vehicles as needed.
  • Ability to function independently and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • Possess a valid Florida State Drivers License to be verified annually.
  • Possess the ability to climb stairs and lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Agree to participate in a background check upon employment.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed
