Injunction for Protection (IFP) Project Attorney

Provide direct legal representation to survivors of domestic, dating, and sexual violence and stalking in temporary, final and other injunction for protection proceeding and civil prosecution of violations of injunctions.

The IFP Attorney will accept referrals of 1) survivors seeking temporary injunctions, and after determining that seeking an injunction is a safe and appropriate legal remedy, will complete and file the ex parte petition for injunction and represent the survivor at the final injunction hearing; 2) survivors who have obtained a temporary injunction on their own and need representation at the hearing on the final injunction; 3) survivors who have a final injunction for protection and the respondent has violated the injunction; 4) survivors who need legal assistance to oppose a motion to dismiss the injunction and similar types of injunction representation.

Illustrative Duties:

路 Provide direct legal representation to survivors of domestic, dating and sexual violence and stalking in temporary and final injunction for protection proceedings and prosecutions of violations of injunctions.

路 Assess the other needs of survivors and make appropriate referrals for services.

路 Conduct outreach in the service area with entities such as the clerk鈥檚 office, the circuit court, law enforcement agencies, state attorneys, agencies working with immigrant, elder communities and persons with disabilities, health care providers, and faith-based organizations to develop referral protocols and to offer additional venues for the attorneys to meet with survivors who are seeking injunctions for protection.

路 Complete monthly and other reports as required by FCADV to monitor completion of project deliverables.

路 Attend FCADV quarterly conference calls and IFP Project training events.


路 Understand and abide by CASA鈥檚 Confidentiality Policy at all times and respects boundaries.

路 Understands that work is dateline driven and can meet those requirements.

路 Demonstrate a commitment to treat clients, volunteers, and co-workers in a respectful manner at all times.

路 Attend and participate in all required training and staff meetings.

路 Stay current with all individual required training.

路 Complete special projects and presentations as requested.

路 Complete other duties as assigned


路 Juris Doctorate degree required from an accredited laws school and two (2) years of litigation experience, preferable representing survivors of domestic, dating and sexual violence and stalking injunction for protection proceedings and other civil legal matters or prosecuting batterers in criminal proceedings.

路 Providing direct legal representations while a law student in a supervised law school legal clinic or internship may be included as litigation experience.

路 Florida licensed attorney in good standing with no prior Florida Bar disciplinary proceedings that resulted in the imposition of any penalty.

路 Must have a good understanding of the dynamics of intimate partner violence and the heightened safety risks faced by survivors seeking to leave or end the abusive relation by filing for an injunction for protection.

路 Must possess highly developed interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills and be able to make appropriate decisions relating to providing effective legal representation with minimal supervision.

路 Possess a valid Florida driver鈥檚 license and good driving record, meeting the requirements of CASA insurer.

路 Posses the ability to function independently and work cooperatively as a member of a team.

路 Be willing to submit to a criminal background check.
